Spoken to a Dahlia

Standing quietly by the fence,
you smile your wondrous smile.
I am speechless, and my senses are filled
by the sounds of your beautiful song,
Beginningless and endless.
I bow deeply to you.

Anon., spoken to a dahlia and quoted by Thich Nhat Hanh

  1. Glad to know I'm not the only person who listens to flowers singing :-)

What a lovely place you've built here.

  2. Is the dahlia any different from you or I?

  3. Graceful presence is to be found in all things, from dahlias to raindrops, to opening souls. Graceful Presence is within you, too Dale ~ I bow deeply to you.

  4. Thank you! Yes, I believe that with all my heart. I was just hoping that dahlias don't suffer from confusion and anger and greed and so forth -- that they'd be unlike me in that regard :-)

  5. Dale,
Right, I don't believe dahlias have this struggle. And beneath our confusion, anger and greed, what is there? Beautiful presence. Blossoming Presence. Waiting to be explored, acknowledged, enjoyed and shared.
